Why tyre pressure monitoring matters when towing
Tyre problems usually begin quietly. A slow leak, rising temperature or unexpected pressure change is difficult to feel from the driver's seat, and harder again with a caravan or trailer behind you.
Weight, heat, speed and distance all place extra stress on towing tyres. SAVR tracks the changes as you drive and warns you when a reading moves outside your selected limits. What is a Bluetooth tyre pressure monitoring system?
A Bluetooth TPMS uses sensors fitted to your tyre valves to send tyre pressure and temperature readings to an app on your phone. Safety Sam displays those readings in the app and warns you by voice when a tyre moves outside your selected limits. Read the complete guide to tyre pressure monitoring systems.
Which sensor pack should I buy?
Count the tyres you want monitored, including spares, and match that number. Packs come in 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16 sensors. The 8 Sensor Pack is the most popular because it covers a tow vehicle and a tandem-axle van together. The 16 Sensor Pack suits fleet vehicles and rigs towing multiple trailers.
Will Safety Sam fit my vehicle or caravan?
Safety Sam sensors screw onto standard Schrader tyre valve stems, used on the vast majority of cars, 4WDs, caravans and trailers in Australia. Check the compatibility guide if your vehicle has an unusual valve design or limited clearance.
Do I need a booster or repeater?
No. Safety Sam connects directly to your phone and does not need a booster, relay or repeater on any pack size. Sensors transmit up to 15 metres and have been tested on caravans up to approximately 25 feet. There is no extra box to mount, wire, charge or power.
Does Safety Sam work with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?
Yes. Spoken alerts can play through your vehicle speakers while you use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Live tyre readings stay in the TPMS Connect phone app and do not appear on the CarPlay or Android Auto display. Read more about using Safety Sam with CarPlay and Android Auto.
Does the app work while my phone is locked?
Yes. Once the app is open and the required phone permissions are enabled, Safety Sam keeps monitoring in the background while your phone is locked. You do not need to sit there watching it.
Can I monitor my tow vehicle and caravan at the same time?
Yes. The 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16 Sensor Packs cover combinations of tow vehicles, caravans, trailers and spare wheels. Separate profiles and pressure ranges can be set for different vehicle and towing setups, since a van rarely runs the same pressures as the car pulling it.
How long do the sensor batteries last?
Each sensor uses a replaceable CR1632 battery, typically lasting 12 to 24 months depending on use, temperature and battery quality. They are widely available from automotive stores, battery retailers and many supermarkets, and the app warns you before one goes flat.
Is professional installation required?
No. The external sensors screw onto the valve stem and are fitted yourself, usually in about five minutes. No mechanic and no tyre shop.
Can the sensors be stolen?
Every pack includes anti-theft lock nuts and a fitting tool. Once locked on, the sensors cannot simply be unscrewed by hand at a campsite or a car park.
What is the difference between external and internal TPMS sensors?
External sensors screw onto the tyre valve and can be fitted, moved and replaced without removing the tyre. Internal sensors sit inside the wheel and normally need a tyre shop for installation and servicing. Read our full external versus internal TPMS comparison.
What should I do if a sensor stops reading?
Most reading issues come down to a battery, an app permission or a pairing setting, and all three are quick fixes. Follow the TPMS troubleshooting guide, or email support@safetysam.au and you will get a real answer.

Frequently asked questions
Will this work with my specific vehicle/van?
Yes. Safety Sam is universal. If your vehicle, caravan, or trailer uses a standard tyre valve (which 99% do), these sensors will screw straight on. It works perfectly on everything from a Toyota HiAce to a triple-axle caravan.
How hard is the setup? Do I need a mechanic?
No mechanic required. If you can screw a cap onto a bottle of water, you can install Safety Sam. It takes about 5 minutes: screw on the sensors, download the app, and sync via Bluetooth. You’ll be road-ready before your coffee gets cold.
Can someone just steal the sensors?
We’ve included custom anti-theft locking nuts and a specialized spanner in every kit. Once locked into place, the sensors cannot be unscrewed by hand, giving you peace of mind when parked at the shops or the campsite.
Does the app need to stay open while I drive?
No. Once synced, the app can run in the background. If a tyre drops below your set pressure or hits a high temperature, the app will send a loud audible alert through your phone (and your car's speakers if you're connected to Bluetooth/CarPlay).
How long do the batteries last?
The sensors use standard CR1632 batteries (available at any supermarket) which typically last 12–24 months. The app will notify you when a battery is getting low so you’re never left guessing.

Much better and easier than the other rubbish I paid more for which are currently landfill ( minus batteries)

Sam was great. I ordered the 2 pack instead of the 4 pack. I spoke to Sam and explained the situation and he fixed my mistake very willingly and sent the right ones the same day. We received them within 3 days as he knew we were leaving next week for our holiday. He was so helpful, and accommodating even though I made tge mistake.
